Easy-Peasy Pumpkin Decorating

I sure haven't gotten around to doing much decorating for the Fall. I'm feeling sort of "Bah-humbug" about Halloween this year. I did buy some pumpkins.  And then I put them outside the garage door.  And that is about all the effort I have put forth so far.  Last year I was inspired to do some creative chevron painting on my pumpkins and use decorative ribbons. For whatever reason, this year I've been so lazy and wanted something with less effort required.  Is that bad of me?! I got my act together today and put some spider web on my now dead bushes in the front of the house (yeah I managed to kill those - I did not consider how much the dirt would settle and the top two inches of the roots became exposed. Lesson learned!). I also put some up on the brick wall by the garage. That stuff sticks perfectly to the texture of the brick!  Then I put my pumpkins by the door. I had a few pairs of black textured tights, so I put one leg ...

How to Organize A Closet: Renter's Edition

I am no stranger to struggles with organization of my clothes. Once hitting college, it has been 8 years of different residences from college dorm rooms to itty bitty college apartments, to moving to 3 different rental properties after being married, and now, in military housing. Common factor shared by all the places I live? None have been a permanent residence that I can modify however I want. I see endless ideas for decorating and organizing for homeowners like wall painting ideas and installing or anchoring furniture or shelving to the wall. For the majority of us renters, these ideas are not options for us. That's my biggest complaint is that there are not enough ideas for those of us who do not own the property we live on! We are allowed to make these modifications, but then we either pay the penalty upon move out for "damages" or have to repaint the walls back to their original color. No thanks! I am getting the hang of organizing all of my wardrobe items int...

Welcome Home Baby Wreath

Out with Halloween, and in with Christmas. Where did Thanksgiving go? Don't ask me. Stores have been putting Christmas decorations out since July, for goodness sake . For whatever reason, I am not opposed to hearing Christmas already. It's already started at my new job - the first song I heard was the Glee Cast version of Last Christmas . I was actually excited to hear it! My mailbox is already filling up with Holiday shopping catalogues and circulars, and my Pinterest wall is full of fun holiday decorating and gift-giving ideas. And the polar bears have come out to play again on the Coke cans! Holiday decorating reminds me that I made a super cute wreath for my niece when she was born, but I never posted anything about it because it was a surprise! I am excited to show it off now, haha! I purchased a grapevine wreath from Hobby Lobby (mine was much larger in diameter than the one on the website) and some blue, green, and brown ribbon that matched the theme of my ni...

Halloweeeeeeeeen!

I am so excited for Halloween this year! No, not for the costume parties, the amazing selection of candy at the store, yummy halloween-time food, or even the spooky movies running on tv. I am excited for the trick-or-treaters! This should be the first year that we actually get a steady flow of trick-or-treaters. In the past, the hubby and I have lived in apartment neighborhoods. I had initially though that we would have a flood of doorbell ringers, since there was such a high-density of doors to go to with little walking or driving required.  But no such luck! I suppose it could be because apartments house families that are not all 9-5 type people, and a lot probably didn't participate or weren't even home. In fact, they were probably all out partying. Anywho, now that we live on a military base, there are multiple children in each household. And the decorations are INSANE! Porches completely covered in spider web, giant pumpkins, a few inflatables, graveyards and gh...

Guest Room Decorating

Drum roll, please. This will be my first post with pictures! This PCS move has made me start thinking about the moving process and all that it entails. We are on the wait list to live on post, and we are going to have a 3 bedroom duplex. It occurred to me that we will need to furnish a guest room for when you all come to visit! And I am hoping that the 3rd bedroom will soon be a nursery! :) The thought of furnishing a guest room seems to be a daunting task. We have no spare furniture of any sort to put in there, and I want there to be a comfortable room to house our visitors so they don't have to pay to stay after paying to travel to get to Ft. Campbell. I just so happened to be a part of a conversation a few weeks ago when my step-brother's wife mentioned they had a spare queen-size bed. I was listening to her story, and then I had a light bulb moment. Wait, we could use a queen-size bed! As the gears in my brain started turning, I realized that my plans for ...
